Title: "The Meet Up Spot" Dimensions: 11x19" Media: Black ball point pen
For this piece I wanted to further my exploration of displaying people through shoes and tackle some important issues in society. I decided to draw different pairs of shoes hanging from a telephone line to represent those who deal with the exchange of illegal substances but might also suffer from substance abuse. After some research, I discovered the shoes hanging from a telephone line represents a good drug dealing spot, so I decided to make that the composition of this piece. To emphasize the dreary sober mood of the piece and give it a darker feeling, I decided to use black ball point pens as my media. To accomplish this piece with a ballpoint pen I had to use a lot of mark making techniques such as, cross hatching and stippling. I centered the shoes and drew them down the page to create movement. The overall composition of the shoes (empty and hanging), and the media/colors were done so that I could enhance my message of illegal substances/ the trade of them are harmful and dark. Through this process I learned how to draw and shade with pens!
